Spotify DEI is a communications initiative internally and externally designed to help Spotify’s current and future employees understand their role in supporting the company’s Diversity, Equity, and Impact commitments.

Life at Spotify
Building trust through transparency
In 2023, Spotify launched an initiative to create a dedicated microsite within their Life at Spotify platform, with a focused lens on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This effort formed part of their broader ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) strategy and was designed to align with their annual Sustainability & Social Impact report.
Our team was brought in to design a digital experience that could elevate Spotify’s commitment to inclusion while reinforcing their employer brand. The microsite needed to be accessible, visually engaging, and anchored in storytelling bringing internal values to life in a way that resonated both internally and externally.
My role was centered on defining the design direction, crafting a flexible and accessible structure for content delivery, designing the user interface, and ensuring visual consistency with Spotify’s brand and design systems. The work required close collaboration with multiple internal teams to deliver a thoughtful, inclusive, and scalable experience within Spotify’s broader web ecosystem.

Problem & Goals
Problem
While Spotify had previously included DEI content within their broader Life at Spotify platform, the material lacked clear visibility, structure, and emotional impact. As part of their ongoing ESG efforts, they identified the need for a more intentional approach, one that would elevate DEI content into its own space while maintaining a strong connection to the parent site.
The challenge was to design a dedicated microsite that felt distinct yet integrated, aligned with both Spotify’s values and their ESG commitments. The new experience needed to support compelling storytelling, reflect Spotify’s commitment to inclusion, and provide internal teams with the flexibility to manage and scale content over time.
Goals
– Increase visibility and clarity around Spotify’s DEI efforts.
– Reflect the Employer Value Proposition (EVP) with authenticity and care.
– Design an inclusive, emotionally resonant user experience.
– Develop a modular system to support content growth and updates.
– Launch in tandem with the annual Sustainability & Social Impact report.

Key insights
Visibility & ownership were missing
DEI content existed, but it was buried, lacking structure, visibility, and a clear sense of ownership. There was a strong internal drive to give it a dedicated, discoverable presence.
A need for a dedicated platform
Embedding DEI within broader content made it hard to find and harder to scale. A standalone microsite was needed to better communicate initiatives and impact.
Trust is earned through clarity
For candidates and employees alike, trust comes from transparency. Inclusive language, clear design, and accessible content had to be built into every layer of the experience.
A milestone worth reflecting
In 2024, Spotify earned a 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, recognition that the new DEI experience helped bring to life.

Design System
Designed to scale, built to belong
I extended Spotify’s visual language into a dedicated design system tailored for the DEI microsite, one that felt distinct, yet deeply connected to the Life at Spotify ecosystem.
The system was designed to support an editorial storytelling approach, scale with evolving internal needs, and uphold inclusive design principles throughout. It gave internal teams the tools to maintain and grow the experience with confidence, while preserving visual consistency and cohesion across the website.
Foundations
– Adapted Spotify’s brand elements (typography, grid, spacing, color) to support a softer, more editorial tone.
– Created a visual hierarchy tailored for narrative content, with accessibility built in from the start.
– Developed together with internal teams a new color palette for the LAS site.
Components
– Designed reusable modules for content cards, FAQs, metrics, CTAs, and navigation
– Built for flexibility and scalability to support evolving content and languages.
Documentation & Handoff
– Documented rules, states, and edge cases directly in Figma.
– Worked closely with developers to ensure seamless integration and ongoing modular updates.

The Solution
Making inclusion visible
We helped Spotify bring their DEI commitments to life through a dedicated microsite aligned with their annual Sustainability & Social Impact report.
The experience was designed to inform, inspire, and reflect Spotify’s values in a way that felt human and intentional. Rooted in emotional clarity and accessibility, the design balanced a premium, playful tone with themes like community, opportunity, LGBTQIA+, and sustainability.
Internally, we brought structure to a complex ecosystem of content and stakeholders, while bespoke, expressive illustrations added warmth and made the content feel welcoming.
